Okay, this started out REALLLLLLLLY slow for me. Rating this a 3.75...There were times, multiple times, that I wanted to just return it to the library and move on to something else. And I DON'T stop reading books, even when they are bad, so that tells you something. But I am glad that stayed with this one, because it did get better. The long setup was the drawback of this book for me. I enjoyed the characters, the development of the plot, and I'd be lying if I said that it wasn't suspenseful and full of action. I especially liked the themes of the loss of childhood innocence, the nature of evil and the descriptions of life in the Midwest during the 1960s. I will read the sequel to this book, definitely giving Simmons another try.
